Spring colour {HDYGG}

Last week the sun shone on my HDYGG post but it did not want to play ball today - Tuesday - when I went out for a potter around.
Still, I found a little bit of colour.

The primulas have just about survived unscathed from the chickens. I'm so glad as they add a vibrant splash of colour to the garden.
The lupins however tell a different story. These have had to be moved off the patio out of reach of the chooks!
I had completely forgotten about the mini daffodil bulbs and it was so nice to find a small spread of these yellow delights bobbing in the breeze.
Spring buds have started to appear on neighbouring bushes and shrubs but the vegetable garden at the end of the garden remains untouched in two weeks.
The old picket fence will have to remain for now - one day it will need replacing but seeing as no one knows who is fully responsible for boundaries and having gone 50/50 in the past we are held on this one.
Finally, the chickens are back free range following two big fence panels being replaced so, fingers crossed, the chooks are free to roam. Until we re seed the lawn!

The dishevelled garden

Again plans have gone awry.
It was lovely four hours ago on the walk to school and upon my return home my thoughts turned to pottering in the garden; sitting with the chickens, getting another coat of paint on the shack.
Then the heavens opened.
In between the downpours I popped out to say hello to the chooks and ended up contemplating the state of our garden.

I found unripe tomatoes, a memory of the summer, a flash of colour amongst the greenery in the pot, the forgotten bird table, a hint for one more courgette, runner beans we forgot to pick, the roller we unearthed many years ago hidden inside a conifer, the unruly rosemary bush and Emily - not looking her best.

How is your garden looking in the rain?

October days in the garden

It's been rather a nice day here after a wet and windy start.
Plans to have a day out changed and instead we headed out into the garden.
I grabbed my phone and took some pictures - something I haven't done in a while.
I love seeing how the garden evolves; changes with the seasons, adapts as the children grow, accommodates new guests.

Minibeast hotel

The chickens went full on free range for the afternoon whilst I found our one and only sunflower looking rather sorry for itself. Dried poppy heads and a garden full of weeds completed the sad picture of the garden finishing its business for the year. Both our sheds need some work doing to them. His has a sign - I'm still trying to locate one for me - whilst mine needs some more paint and some work inside. And the kiddies? They occupied themselves creating a minibeast hotel on the patio complete with cherry tomato cushions and grass carpet.
It's the simple things sometimes that make me smile the most.
