dan le sac & Scroobius Pip are back! {Camp Bestival 2014}

Sunday has always been my favourite day at Camp Bestival.
The last day of what has always been a fantastic long weekend.
The day when we try and get all the planned things done.
But also a day to unwind and take it all in.
Sunday last year saw just me and the children unwinding in the Literary Tent listening to some Spoken Word from my all time favourite bearded poet Scroobius Pip.
A relaxing time before we refuelled with some food and cider before meeting up with friends.
The evening saw a very proud moment for me when the girl joined me at the barrier for dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip.

So seeing Messrs le sac and Pip back on the bill, for which sounds like their last tour in a very long time, possibly forever *sniffs*, at Camp Bestival this year makes me, and the girl, very happy indeed!

365 #26 {From sun to rain}

This week has flown by and as I sit typing this I so wish it was last weekend again.
A much needed weekend away with the husband.
The sun shone and now the rain is back.
And we're half way through this project!

365 #26

Project 365 day 173 - Kings of Leon at Milton Keynes Bowl // 76sunflowers
Project 365 day 174 - Wild by Cheryl Strayed // 76sunflowers
Project 365 day 174 - Blue Peter badge winner! // 76sunflowers
Project 365 day 176 - Sunflower // 76sunflowers
Project 365 day 177 - Wild by Cheryl Strayed // 76sunflowers
Project 365 day 178 - Stormy sky ahead // 76sunflowers
Project 365 day 179 - Hook a Duck // 76sunflowers

Day 173
The second day of our weekend away led us to sunny Milton Keynes for the amazing Kings of Leon. I sunk a few ciders in the blazing sun and had a stonking time with the husband. It was much needed.
Day 174
A rather quiet day today following a 5:30 a.m. alarm as the husband had to get back for work. Another downside of owning your own business. I chilled with some healthy food following the weekend and got stuck into a new book.
Day 175
The girl was rather excited to receive her green Blue Peter badge today. She had built a Minibeast Hotel in the garden a while back.
Day 176
Back to work day. In the evening I wandered down the garden to check on the sunflowers. Not quite there.
Day 177
Early to bed with the new book. It was a spot on recommendation from one of my #postcircle pen pals.
Day 178
The rain certainly arrived today. I looked out of the back window and saw a noticeable divide in the outgoing and incoming weather.
Day 179
School Fayre today with some stubborn ducks that refused to stay up. I know how they feel.

365 #25 {Much needed break}

It's been a funny old week.
Me time to full on at work and back to me time.
I like the start and end of that circle.

Project 365 day 171 - Doombar Friday tipple // 76sunflowers
Project 365 day 172 - Kasabian & Kings of Leon // 76sunflowers

Day 166
The morning after the night before. The garden was a calm place for a quiet moment following a busy birthday BBQ on Saturday which resulted in bulging recycling boxes from the empties. The late night football didn't help either.
Day 167
Time to myself - I always feel much better with the world following a round with the weights and the yoga mat.
Day 168
Overgrown hedgerows on the walk to school - amongst the nettles though a pretty thistle was found.
Day 169
Incoming happy mail again today!
Day 170
The hot weather means the doors are wide open in the conservatory and the chooks become uninvited house guests.
Day 171
A cold ale was needed tonight. Just the one though as we have a busy weekend ahead.
Day 172
The in laws are here to babysit and it's concert day number 1! We're off to Leicester today to see Kasabian then over to Milton Keynes to see Kings of Leon. This makes me very happy! :)

365 #24 {Signs of Summer}

Summer was finally here this week.
Days of sunshine from dawn to dusk always makes the world a happier place.
This week saw another birthday so more cake.
Something else to smile about.

365 #24

Project 365 day 159 - Outgoing #happymail #snailmail #postcircle
Project 365 day 160 - Garden flowers
Project 365 day 161 - Happy school run
Project 365 day 162 - Vegetable patch
Project 365 day 163 - Incoming #happymail #snailmail #postcircle
Project 365 day 164 - Happy Birthday Husband!
Project 365 day 165 - Afternoon drink

Day 159
A day to catch up with some outgoing happy mail and some time to doodle.
Day 160
A look around the garden for some flowers but this was all I could find - chives and something I'm unsure of.
Day 161
I'm enjoying the school run again, especially on sunny mornings.
Day 162
A warm Summer evening and I thought I would snap the Californian poppies but they had closed up for the night - the potato plants are looking good though.
Day 163
Incoming happy mail today. The note was light hearted and not as heavy as the image might suggest.
Day 164
The husband's birthday and a second attempt at the cake as I managed to burn one the night before - I blame the faulty timer.
Day 165
Afternoon drinks with friends for the husband's birthday. Our pub of choice was closed for a wedding reception so we went elsewhere. They were also hosting a wedding reception but were still open to the public so we could gate-crash discreetly. Back home now for a BBQ and aiming to stay up for the football. We shall see.

LEGO and more Discoveries & Oddities! {Camp Bestival 2014}

Well, this has certainly extended the smile on the boy's face as the LEGO Imagination Factory are heading down to Lulworth to make Camp Bestival even more perfect for us! This week some truly fantastic sounding Oddities & Discoveries were announced.

Over to Rob da Bank...

We’ve got all sorts of incredible curiosities coming to Camp Bestival this year. From off the wall circus treats in the Caravan of Lost Souls, LEGO and their brilliant Imagination Factory, and surveying the site with a camp-bestiscope in Oberon’s Observatory to the mayhem of Britain’s Not Got Talent and amazing experiments in the Science Tent, there’s loads of ace stuff for all the family to discover. See you at Lulworth Castle!”

Camp Bestival // 76sunflowers

Oddities & Discovery
Igor Rasputin’s Caravan of Lost Souls
An incredible ape-powered pop-up circus providing wondrous entertainment for your delectation and appreciation. Witness magic, contortion, hula hoop, mime, an amazing array of circus skills and more from this cabaret of curiosity, popping up in all four corners of Camp Bestival!
LEGO Imagination Factory
A celebration of ‘free build’, this magical environment will immerse you in the LEGO belief in the power of each individual’s imagination. Doubters might see a pile of bricks and accessories but ‘we’ see a jet fighter, a beautiful flower, an alien monster, our dog called Spike or the skyline of New York. The golden rule of The Imagination Factory is that there are no rules – no rights or wrongs – just inspiration to let LEGO enable you to build anything that your imagination can conjure up.
Oberon's Observatory
A ramshackle but beautiful edifice with a stargazer's viewing platform, there will be camp-bestiscopes for studying the curiosities happening across the festival and searching for the stars. Hidden in the heart of Oberon's Observatory is an old projection room where Camp Bestival will screen 21st century windows into other worlds, space and art. For the period of one lunation only, Camp Bestival invites you to come and explore this extraordinary building.
Showmany Calliope
A mixture of traditional fairground showman heritage, pyrotechnics, a full independently powered 4K sound system and a bowtop caravan themed stage, that will play host to the devilish Mosschops and Sidewicket’s Britain’s Not Got Talent. So, do you want to perform on the craziest stage of all time? Have you got a talent? Have you not got talent? We don't care, because we haven't; so anything goes! From Dutch didgeridoo dancing to skateboarding budgerigars; panpipe duets to five-year-old Frank Carson impersonators (keep it clean please), we need you! Terms and Conditions do not apply.
Science Tent
Certainly not for boffins only and is definitely not to be missed! It’s a glorious mix of science-based performances like now>press>play and Rock Guitar in 11 Dimensions, timetabled science including programming robots, 3D printing your favourite Minecraft designs, being amazed by a Rapsberry Pi and lots, lots more and drop in sessions where you can make video games with Play-doh, power an alarm clock with fruit, pre-programme a robot arm and so much more. There’s tons to stimulate and fascinate every age group! And that includes you mums and dads!
And remember with our gargantuan music line up featuring De La Soul, Basement Jaxx, James, Johnny Marr, Sinead O’Connor and more, plus more kids entertainment than you can shake a stick at including Mr Tumble, Horrible Histories, Ben & Holly Live and loads more, plus brand new arenas, Project Wild Thing, comedy, theatre, attractions and activities, it really is the Greatest Family Show on Earth, so don’t miss out!

365 #23 {A better balance}

A change in work pattern occurred this week with the switch back to part time.
Relief all round for everyone.
The smile on the boy's face when I said I could walk him to school again was priceless.
No camera to hand though to capture it.

Day 152
A lazy Sunday following our busy half term week. The children were happy to play out and I caught the two of them drawing and painting together.
Day 153
The children had an extra day off today due to teacher training so we popped into town to send off passport applications. I treated myself to my first magazine in months, if not years. This one is new to me and I was drawn in by the happiness on the front cover. I am glad to say, the content was worthwhile.
Day 154
Time to unwind and let the stresses of full time work disappear. Returning part time was the best decision. Today I walked the children to school then took some time out to myself and threw myself into some yoga. It is highly recommended.
Day 155
Packing today for the girl's first residential with school. It felt rather strange with another milestone reached and another event to make me feel old.
Day 156
Work today so all pretty uneventful on the photo snapping front. I was watching the chickens tonight and spotted the flowering chives. Note two of the chooks pottering around like a pair of old women in the background.
Day 157
Sat in the back garden tonight for five minutes watching the sky and just thinking to myself.
Day 158
I had planned a lazy Saturday as the forecast was rain all day and the husband was at work today. The children were happy to have a home day so I attempted some gardening. I lasted all of 30 minutes!

Newark Park {HDYGG}

Well I lied.
We managed to get a fourth National Trust visit under our belts during our half term break.
Saturday saw all four of us head up to Gloucestershire to visit Newark Park for a lovely wander around the gardens and woodland.
A new one for us and well worth the trip.

More of my favourite alliums.
Roses, new and old.
A perfect doorway.
Majestical peacocks.
Walled doorways aplenty.
Beautiful walled gardens.
Foxgloves up close.
A walk through a meadow of buttercups, daisies, clover - and sheep.

More memories created.

New arenas {Camp Bestival 2014}

Not satisfied with the array of activities, live music and visuals already on offer at the best family festival going, Camp Bestival are bringing in some new arenas for 2014!

Here's what the man at the top himself, Rob Da Bank, has to say...

*drum roll* Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, the team at Camp Bestival HQ proudly present for your delectation and wonder, a host of beloved and brand new venues! Please welcome to our circus arena the Travelling Barn, The Pigs Big Ballroom, Caravanserai and Project Wild Thing!
Our new venues are causing the family and I a huge wardrobe dilemma: we'll want camouflage face paint and explorer gear for the feral activities in the Dingly Dell with Project Wild Thing, cowboy boots and chaps for the all-family toe-tapping hoe downs in the Travelling Barn, dancing shoes and circle skirts to swing along to Greg's Greats in the Pigs Big Ballroom and vaudevillian circus outfits to explore Caravanserai! Can't wait to discover it all with the nippers and a different outfit on every half an hour! See you there.
 New arenas at Camp Bestival 2014 // 76sunflowers
New arenas for 2014:
Caravanserai
A unique venue Caravanserai is a convoy of English and French artists, gypsies and beatniks who have set up an encampment for weary travellers and wanderers to rest and recharge. They welcome you to have a tipple in their amazing cocktail bar and explore or lounge in their bric-a-brac camp built form old vehicles, curiosities and objects d'art they have found on the road. It’s a laidback hangout in the afternoon and positively rambunctious at night, so be sure to pay them a visit!
Travelling Barn
For the first time ever, hosted by the anarchic hillbilly barn dancing squad Cut A Shine, the travelling Barn has racks of local real ale to sup, acoustic acts in the daytime and raucous, toe-tappin' hoe-downs in the evening. The grown-ups get a pint and the whole family get to dance their boots off - all under the same oak-beamed roof! Perfect.
Project Wild Thing
From listening spots in the woods, to creative nature writing sessions, wild story-telling, an un-nature trail, creature mask making, bird spotting (and stepping), shadow drawing, groking, and a digital detox for screen addled minds, Project Wild Thing will help kids and their folks re-connect with the wild and they’ll help you take that habit back home.
And an old favourite returns:
And finally, for now, we’re over the moon to announce the return of an old favourite at Camp Bestival, Pig’s Big Ball Room! Dedicated to the memory of John Peel and his Pig’s Big 78 selections, it’s programmed by the Shellac Collective and Greg’s Greats and is a mind-blowingly amazing dance arena. From original R&B Dance Band, Swing, Skiffle, Jazz, African, Latin, Calypso, Rock-a-billy and Rock and Roll from live bands or played on authentic 78s, it’s high octane jitter-buggin’ action with some truly classic music! Check out our website for full line-up!
