I love being a mother of two but sometimes it's just lovely to have one of them to myself.
Last weekend the girl was invited to a sleepover at a friend's house.
I'm loving her growth in confidence and the fact that she is developing new friendships at school.
I'm also freaked out by the speed at which they are both growing.
Rare time alone with the boy always makes me think back to the days when E had just started school and A was just 2.
I was a SAHM - life was so much easier then.
I'm so sad that this space, and much more here, is threatened by more than 500 houses.
We carried on through fields of animals, picking up sticks and pretending to be Harry Potter making magic.
We looked up at the pylons, always an imposing sight and always rather worrying when the passing clouds makes them look as if they are about to tumble.
We walked around the fields chatting about the train line and a passing diverted train with endless carriages.
We walked around the fields hand in hand appreciating what we have on our doorstep.
We walked around the fields enjoying being mummy and son.
Time with my boy took me back.
Time with my boy is so precious.
How long will it be until he doesn't want to hold my hand?

It is great to have one to one time with your kids isn't it? Well Oscar is 13 now so no holding hands but he still had a hug this morning before leaving for school. We still enjoy dog walks together just the two of us chatting about strange things that 13 year old boy's chat about and wading through the water in our wellies! I think as your children grow relationships grow too, they are not always going to be easy but the change is naturally organic so not a massive shock to you!

Thanks Ali. I'm getting rather sentimental with Christmas approaching - again! Glad you still get hugs from 13 year old boys - A has promised he'll always do that for me even when he's a grumpy teenager ;)
ReplyDeleteAh, this is lovely. As you know from my post, I do find that one on one time so precious. It's lovely that I get it now with my son, with my daughter now at school, but then it makes me determined to carve some out with her, too. Looks like a lovely walk, and yes, make the most of those hand-holding days x
ReplyDeleteI can so relate to this. I love spending time with one of my children on their own. Sadly only my daughter will hold my hand now (she's 8). My younger son (11) will hold my hand when he's scared, but as a rule he hasn't held it since he was in year 1! I love the photo of the pylon - I find they make fascinating photos. They're so imposing and strange looking in the countryside.
ReplyDeleteOur countryside is threatened too :( There's talk of 3,000 houses. The talk has been going on for at least 10 years, so I live in hope it won't happen.
My eldest still goes on walks with me along the caostal path, it's then, if ever, that he opens up to me about his aspirations and worries, so don't worry I'm sure it'll still happen. It's a shame that the lovely open areas around you are threatened by planning, I hope you don't lose all your lovely green spaces. Thanks for linking up with Country Kids.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to get time with just one isn't it, certainly once they start school. My little girl and I still have plenty of one on one time, but I rarely get either of the boys on their own. It's so lovely when I do. I love your photos and words, beautiful post x #CountryKids
